CoolDeck Installation Instructions for Steam Deck OLED Before proceeding, be sure to read all instructions and make sure you are familiar with how to perform all the steps. I am not responsible for any damage caused by incorrect installation. Installation: 1. Shut down the Steam Deck. 2. Remove the micro SD card if one is inserted. 3. Place the steam deck on a soft surface, screen facing down. The original case that came with the deck can be used. 4. Remove the 8 torx T6 screws securing the Steam Deck back cover. 5. Using a pair of plastic "guitar pick" style pry tools, carefully pry off the back of the Steam deck, starting at the top near the triggers. Once the top edge is apart, carefully lift up and remove the back of the Steam Deck. 6. Remove 2 torx T6 screws securing the EMI shield. Peel away the attached ribbon cable and taped wire, then remove the EMI shield. 7. Disconnect the battery connector. 8. Reinstall the 2 screws that previously secured the EMI shield to the motherboard. 9. Carefully peel back the sticker on the heatpipe and fan. Remove the 3 torx T6 screws securing the heatsink and remove it from the motherboard. 10. Thoroughly clean the old thermal paste on the heatsink and APU. 11. Apply the perfect amount of thermal paste (not included) between the APU and the original heatsink. Install the original heatsink and align the 3 mounting holes. Apply thermal paste to the top of the original heatsink, where it will contact the new copper plate. 12. Place the CoolDeck plate on top while aligning the 3 mounting holes. 13. Using the 3 included M2 x 4mm screws, fasten the copper plate to the motherboard, through the heatsink tab holes. Tighten the screws evenly, keeping the plate level with the motherboard. Do not overtighten. 14. Plug in the battery connector. Snap the back cover into place and secure it with the 8 screws. Installation of the CoolDeck is now complete. Updated 12/13/25
